Not yer usual side window leak, opinions please

Post by 1664 »

After removing the furniture out of the van I found a small amount of water getting in the van. Checked the rubber window seals and they're were sound as a pound so thought it was entering via the seams. I've now done the seams but the water started appearing again in yesterdays rain. I've now noticed it is indeed getting in through the window but not between the rubber and the metalwork but somehow getting past the seal between the rubber and the glass

Is this a 'simple' fix of ramming silicon between the glass and rubber?

I don't really want to remove the seal from the body as that is a pain and will 'break' an otherwise sound waterproof seal to the body. Besides, I'm going to Deva next weekend and the interior HAS to go back in this week (and I'm re-lining the interior carpet so I'm pushed for time).

Not sure if sealing will fix it but if you do, don't use silicone but a polyuretahne based sealant. Your local car glass place will happily sell you some.
