Cambelt wear

Post by Mog »

Anyone had any problems with cambelt wearing on the side.
It was replaced 1500 miles ago after vw specialist rebuild but seams to be wearing alot on the side that faces you after you remove the cover.
Any sugestions.

The back side of the belt runs against the belt tensioner and will always look worn, put the cover back and forget about it till it is next due for replacement.

It shouldn't show signs of wear though (just running marks) - is the pulley seized or stiff, was the tensioner relaced at the time?

A new belt & tensioner were fitted at the time of rebuild. The old belt had shown no signs of wearing in this way & had done 20,000 KM. The garage have agreed to investigate this problem after seeing it yesterday morning, but not untill a week on Tuesday & have told me not to drive it untill then. I will let you know of the outcome.

pump is out of alignment, it needs sorting sooner rather than later, belt should never have side wear.
