Help wiring my smartcom relay

Post by albertramsbottom »

Hi

If some of your have following any of my posts you will probably be aware that I have just brought a Smartcom self-switching relay but it didnt come with much instructions.

FYI - it doesnt need wiring to the alternator so I just need a had with the terminals

It has 5 terminals and an adjustment screw. The terminals are marked as follows:

Rightside:

+12V permanant Live O/P
Fridge O/P
Aux Battery O/P

Leftside:

+12VFused I/P
OV Earth I/P

Now i am just guessing here but I would have thought that the O/P & I/P mean Output and Input

So would I be right in suggesting that I run a:

live from my starter battery to the +12vFused I/P?
Earth from my starter battery to the OV Earth I/P or just earthed to the body?
Live from Fridge O/P to fridge switch
Live from Aux Battery O/P to Live on LB

And as for the permanant Live O/P I can only think that this would be for towing purposes i.e lights on caravan

Is that right? any other suggestions?

Many thanks

When you have it all wired in, start the engine and you should hear the relay 'click' on once the ignition warning light has gone out ( three to four seconds on mine). If not then try a quarter turn on the adjustment until it bursts into life (just use a pen to mark on it where you started from !) Nice little unit runs my fridge & bits a treat.

I have just installed a SMARTCOM with the usual lack of instructions !

Just wanted to check what others have found to work in wiring theirs up,

Input
- ve & + ve are obvious

Output
The feed to leisure battery & fridge obvious
The +12v output where does that go, interior lights ? does it even need to be connected, as if it supplies lights the switch will break the circuit, so no load ?

Trouble is that even when the ignition is off the fridge is still running

Do I need to adjust the potentiometer ??

Cheers

The 12v output is just if anything needs to be connected without going through the relay more used when it is fitted for caravan use. The relay will still be switched on for a while after the engine as stopped until the battery loses it surface charge, give it a while and recheck the fridge.
