Westy fridge question

Hi everyone,

A common problem - My westy fridge (RM184) works well on 12v and 240v, but does not on gas, flame ignites gas, flue gets hot, but cooling unit does not heat up! It appears that either there isn't enough heat being generated by the burner
( re-clean jet ?) and /or there is a problem with the heat transfer from gas burner and flue pipe to the cooling unit. I have been told that fridges of this design have a baffle which sits in the flue pipe above the burner to disrupt the flow of heat to improve the exchange of heat from the burner to the cooler. However there is no obvious baffle part to mention, though i notice that the inner wall of the flue has inward projections which i guess would disrupt flow of heat etc. Previously the fridge has worked well on both electric and gas.

Any thoughts on the baffle ? Any comments and advice welcome!

I would clean the jet if it's only the fridge, if the cooker looks low too then check the jet in the regulator on the underslung tank if you have one.

Thanks Rob for your suggestion, from memory the gas hob seems to have a good flame. i have already removed the fridge and was considering re cleaning the fridge valve and then hopefully I'll be back on gas! Do you know if the westy fridge has a baffle?

The baffle hangs in the flue on a short lenght of wire it looks like and is a flat strip of metal twisted into a helix
If its not in there it wont get hot/cold enough if you know what I mean
also the jet has a tiny orifice and needs changing every service (annually) they are about a quid fifty and not worth trying to clean to be fair they dont need much maintenance and are serviceable for many years

lay it on its door and use the flame for the cooler as a handy makeshift grill

Just to update!

A recleaned the jet - sat it in a jar of paint thinner / cleaner over night. There was small specks in bottom of jar the following day. Next a quick blast of compressed air - refit and know everything is good!

I have heard that there is an inline filter on the westy fridge gas supply, can anyone confirm and direct me to it?

Ye there is, It says so in the manual but I cant find it. Would like to know where it is myself.
