Things (that spring to mind), that are temperature related and can cause complete failure are the coil, and the ECU. Best way to progress is to find someone with a running DJ and swapp bits till the symptom goes away. Sound electrical.

Do the usual preventative maintenance of going through the wiring connectors with a fine tooth comb, looking for frayed wires and corrosion, and repair as necessary.

Do a fuel check by pulling one of the hoses near an injector, and seeing how much fuel she pumps with ignition on in 30 seconds as per Haynes and Bentley manual. If all is well with that then I would say it is an electrical fault.

thanks for info i am leaning towards the sensors being at fault will try the water one first and go from there

The water ecu temp sensor wont cause the engine not to start, it will think it is cold and en-richen the mixture if it is knackered. It would have shown symptoms of a high tick over before now. If you had a faulty temp gauge and someone in the past would have had to turn down the tick over, then fitting a new one would make the tick over too low and would stall. Should start though, then stall.

If you short out the ecu temp sensor the ecu will think that the engine is hot (no resistance), set the tick over then, if you can get the thing started. Next replace the wire and see what happens to the tickover. If it is knackered the hot tick over will then be way high.

Be methodical, the best way is to follow bentley and go through each component checking as you go.

This is the schematic for the MV engine, with lambda sensor.
