engine not starting 2litre Aircooled

Post by katykoo »

engine not starting no spark at plug. There is power to the distributer, as multimeter has shown 12 volts. New sparks, leads and cap. The van has been standing for 8 months.

The Haynes manual is a bit crap at showing the pipes that run between vthe airbox and the distributer/vacuum unit. I have a hose that runs from the Vac unit supoosedly into the back of the airbox. I cannot see anyhwer for it to go in the back of the airbox, and this hose has a T bar, and links to one of the two holes in the airbox.

Help! Would this cause a no spark?

No it doesn't have such luxury.. It was working fine, in terms of ignition, but have replaced the head, and put everything back together only to have this pesky problem!

Did you reconnect the earth for the ignition system (brown wire under the distributor)?

That hose connects to the steel balance pipe behind the airbox. There's a rundown on the vac hoses in the wiki.

I had endless problems like yours and it turned out to be the coil. I know you have suggested that you are getting 12 volts at the dizzy but it needs 50000 for a spark. No spark I recon your coil is done for

I tried a differenet coil, and still no spark..

The balance pipe..steel at the back of the airbox is where the tube go's from the distributer as in the picture above? Can't see where it connects too..hmm
