Killed my bus

Post by Pepperami »

Trying to sort out my cutting out problem today using a new vss. Thinking i had worked out where i gone wrong cut the wire and joined them. Now the FI wont switch on it turns over but wont prime. Reconnected the old wire and it's exactly the same. Checked connections, fuses ????????????????
It's all beyond me.

tony,
Ignition on lives the fuel pump relay which primes the pump.
Once started the ECU fires the relay to keep the pump running.
Check the Voltage at the fuel pump relay for 12v with ignition lights on.
If no volts there then check back to ignition fuse.
First things first slow back track.
Has the van fired at all since even a possible quick run and stop?

Paul
The engine turns over fine but hasn't tried to fire at all. When the ignition is switched on it doesn't make the whirring noise (prime pump). Cheers i will check over as you have said.

Ok just checked the fuel relay and between terminals 3 and 4 it is showing 14.29 volts. The 15amp ignition fuse is fine.

Where did you have yours James. Mines under the rock and roll by the slider. When its running you can really hear the fuel pump (loud). You have a bmw pump don't you?

Sounds like you are missing 12v to the ECU?
Cant remember if Richard put an Ignition fuse on the ECU?
Fuel pump relay Pins 1+2 Yell you should see with ignition on 12v ish.

Pin 4 Black Red live to pump on prime and running.
Pin 3 Light Green Black to ECU via a diode. Its this signal that grounds the relay making the connection.
If the ECU has no Juice then that function will not work.
On the original Subaru diagram Pin 2 is fed via the Ignition relay.
Pin 1 also feeds the ECU!

Of course the ECU might have volts but have a fault.
If you say even no diagnostic operation then it still points at a voltage loss somewhere.
Lets not forget I could of course be completely wrong and barking up the wrong tree.
And also I have probably got the wrong year wiring diagram!
