SLAP BANG SLAP etc
I have a 1990 Reimo with Westfalia type roof. Plagued with a noise driving all the way to Cornwall and half way back. Driving myself and partner 'round the bend'. It started at 50mph and just got worse. It seemed to come from the front at knee level. I spent ages underneath tie-ing up the speedo cable and had both front grills off. Anything loose was dealt with. Still THE NOISE! Every time I thought I'd got it, it proved a non starter. We broke our journey in Exeter and, in desperation I phoned my mechanic in London. He suggested it might be the chocks and securing bungee straps I keep on the roof. But I swear that noise was coming from below! We get on the M'way at Exeter with high hopes but these are dashed as IT comes back dead on 50mph. I am now approaching insanity at the thought of another slow journey. And the possible expense of removing the dash board. But then rationality kicked in. I started feeling the roof whilst driving and sure enough could feel the vibrations in time with the noise. But I took everything off the roof??? OK let's stop at the services and have a look. And guess what I found ? No, the front part of the roof was not about to divorce itself from the bus and everything looked quite normal. But on closer inspection........................ a metre long strip of rubber sealing the fibre glass roof to the van just above the windscreen had come unstuck. A quick bit of Gaffer tape and we were on our way serenely gliding ( or so it seemed ) down the M4. I felt 10 years younger! The moral--- Sounds travels and are deceptive. Being a musician I should have known this. Good luck to you all this Summer. Deke.
