propex heater
I have some kind of propex heater in my van which has been there since I bought it. However, I have never been able to get it to work. It has an outlet pipe and a control panel on one of the side lockers. When I try to turn it on there is a whiring noise for a few seconds then nothing. Any ideas anyone.
I saw this in a cartoon once and I'm pretty sure I can do it !

Type 'propex' into the search at the top of the page. I found some useful posts on there when I had problems with mine.

Just a thought, if it runs off the leisure battery is it fully charged and healthy. I know they tend to play up if the battery voltage is low. Also a good supply of gas.

Re: propex heater
Not had a problem with the lesuire batter since I had a split relay stuck in there and looms of unwanted wires ripped out. Might be the gas supply. Since I last tried to use it I have replaced the regulater as that stopped working too. The gas valves are all in series, but there is only the main valve, one for the fridge and another for the stove, not one for the heater. Should there be? Do I need to do anything to draw the gas to the heater?

Re: propex heater
Mine has a gas valve for the cooker and fridge but the gas goes directly to the propex. On your control unit do you have the option of just running the propex fan alone for cooling in the summer and does that bit work at least?

Re: propex heater
i thought my first post would be asking loads of questions as i've newly acquired a autosleeper but i think i might be able to help after trying to figure out how to get my heater to work!
follow the gas pipe from the heater. on mine there is a copper lever valve in the cupboard above the heater that needs to be turned through 90 degrees to open it to feed the heater.
depending on your conversion your's might be different but have a look anyway.
good luck.

as has been said, you must tell us your conversion, as the plumbing varied from builder to builder.
propex won't work with low battery (11.5V)
propex won't run on low gas pressure.
the symptoms you describe are:-
no gas
no ignition
thermostat too low
if the cooker works then the gas pressure is correct.

Re: propex heater
My conversion is an Autohomes Kameo. There is no other valves or levers to be found other then the ones already mentioned. The cooker seems to work fine since I replaced the regulater. When I turn it on there is a whirring / sucking sound then it cuts out and the green light on the control panel goes out. Does this help at all? It is not blowing cold air either. As I say, it just dies after a few seconds of sounding like it's trying to do something but not actually doing anything.

Re: propex heater
next step then is try it with the engine running.
if it fails then, you may have an ignition problem.
Can you smell gas at the exhaust flue after you try to run it?
On a personal note..
When I change the bottle over, it takes 4-5 attempts to get ignition. this is because the gas has to purge the line.
Propex will service your unit and make any repairs
