obligatory awning tear!!

Post by Doctor Foster »

Yep after the second time using our awning I managed to give it the obligiatory tear in the porch where the sliding door catches it. Whats the best solution to repair it or should I just get used to it and pretend its a new air vent?

:)

Our Awning was damaged in a similar way and I managed to repair it with a product like this :::

I tore mine the first time I used it!....... They really should have a warning on these things to make sure you set them up in such a way the sliding door doesn't slice through the fabric when you open it.

Regardless though my rip fixed really easily. I used one of those repair kits that use a clear plastic sticky strips. I applied one to the inside and one to the outside of my tear. Worked great.

Good Luck

Not a repair tip but a prevention tip

When set up,
slide door open till just before it catches,
then use some old broomstick cut to the right length,
pop it into the way of the bottom roller and "hey presto" instant door stop
You can still shut the door as normal with it in place....

Store it in a plastic bag under the passenger seat cause it can get a bit yucky :ok :ok

My youngest shredded ours making an emergency wee run, poor thing was devastated. I used tenacious tape from camperlands, about a fiver and I had enough left to fix a couple of other small nicks in the awning. I need to goin later in the week, happy to get some for you and post if you want, think their mail order postage is pretty high.

Depends on the way it folds. Someone has used Gaffer on my devon in the past and it now doesn't fold down the way it should, sort of bunches up instead. This is not quite as thick but you may get the same problem. I don't know how other pop tops fold away though.
I would personaly ring camperlands 0161 9988523. They are really nice and helpful and although not expeerts on camervans they do a wide variety of folding campers/ trailer tents, and I imagine the pricipal is similar.
