2 litre CU aircooled- no spark.

Post by katykoo »

2 Litre Aircooled. Have replaced cylinder head and put everything back together with new leads, spark plugs and air filter. Van has been laid up since September 08.

There is no spark? Any ideas? Thanks :D

The van has an electric fuel pump and the fuel pump can be heard running. Is it powered by the battery or coil-as it is linked to the coil? Therfore the coil throwing power could it be the distributer?

you checked the coil connections to make sure everything is correct? Also i take it you have removed a plug then tested it by holding it with insulated pliers next to the engine case and turning the engine over?

Check the rotor arm for corrosion, make sure contacts in dizzy cap are good, make sure leads are good with no corrosion ect.... Get a multimeter out and check to see if the coil is recieving power. Check earth strap under engine near gearbox mount.

Plenty of things to be doing!

Hi,

Yes have tested for spark against engine case and turned engine over, and not a sausage!

The coil is the same as was in the engine before.. have checked the wiring. The coil wasn't removed or changed. Will check engine earth strap. Also the earth that fits under the distributer hasn't been put back on, but will be putting that back on..

Thanks..

The earth under the distributor is the earth for the ignition system very important it's good.

It's not unknown for the distributor to pop up a little and out of mesh - not sure if this applies to the Aircooled CU though, worth checking anyhow.

Anything else done during this period of standing and forgotten. Corrosion of earths seems a possibility when standing for a year or more!
