heat exchangers

Post by Skip »

we have air cooled 1600 T25 and would like to know what i have to do to remove the heat exchangers as they are about as much use as a chocolate fireguard.
what i need to know is what pipes i need to replace them with.
is it a hard job, has anybody got any tech info or drawings or any advise at all.
i`m fairly mechanically minded but just some help
cheers

Hi and welcome to the club!

You can remove them as that is exactly what I have done with mine. You have to replace the original exhaust piping where the heat exchangers are for something called 'J-tubes'. Basicly a tube in the shape of a 'J'. Simples!
Or not.... Remember that these heat exchangers supply heat to your heating and air distribution unit... And it it that which keeps your windscreen clear when its persisting it down and flippin' cold! Without them you have to consider how you are going to adapt the system to supply heat to the air distribution unit.
I take it the exchangers aren't working too well at the moment (probably an understatement!) :D but when these systems are properly maintained, they're not actually too bad! Even if a bit expensive to replace!

Hope this helps.
Mark.
