Re: Electrics
Red wires to starter motor assembly if you mean where do they go from the Alt (according to the Bently manual for 84 models) and from there to the battery.

Re: Electrics
My alt is new but not charging the battery. Its a 45amp.When running the alt is putting out 12.4, even when reving engine.I think the wires leading away from back of the alt are needing replaced.I just cant work out where they go to
Re: Electrics
Thanks for the info.I fitted a new battery and 45anp alt a month ago.Battery wont charge.Even when reving engine the volts across the battery stay at 12.4.I think that the two red wires from the back of the alt need replacing.I just cant see where they go to once they leave the altAngeloEvs wrote:Red wires to starter motor assembly if you mean where do they go from the Alt (according to the Bently manual for 84 models) and from there to the battery.

Re: Electrics
There is heavy gauge cable from the battery to the starter motor and the output from the Alt links across to this cable via the red wires. According to the Bentley manual the two red wires are in parallel and both connect to the same point on the starter. Have a peek at the starter cable connections and you should see these red wires connected along with a heavier gauge. Not a good idea to run the engine with the alternator off load (not connected to a battery so to speak) but the output from the alt has to go to the starter battery positive by whatever route is convenient.
