unknown engine in my caravelle
I have finally moved my caravelle to my works, it's the first time I've had time to go through it, and was surprised to find what looks like a polo or golf engine hiding under the lid ?! I say surprised because I was expecting to find a 1600 air cooled unit, at least that's what I was told was there, I got it as a non runner

Re: unknown engine in my caravelle
You need to at least take a pic and post it here so we can see what it might be... and ideally you need to have a look and see what engine code it is... most (if not all) I4 (Inline 4 cyl) blocks have the cc cast into the outside of the block...
Now... has it got a lower front grill? with radiator behind? sure it isnt a diesel?? (open fuel cap and have a gentle sniff)
1.8 (golf/passat etc) petrol engine works quite well if that is what its got...
Oh... "Caravelle" wasnt used until 1983...... the 1.6 CT (Aircooled) engine was deleted in 1983 Caravelle denotes the 6/7/8 or 9 seat "bus" that generally has a bit better spec than a bus/konbi so a pic of the old girl would be good.

Had a closer look today, the engine code looks like it might be E Z ............. although it could be I X, it's very difficult to work out, it's definately petrol, there is what looks like a 1.8 mark on the crank case though I'm told that probably isn't the engine size and finally the block is mounted at about a 45 degree angle, hope that helps, I'll try and post some pics as soon as I work out how
