I also have an engine you can have FOC. But I'm in Gloucester. Good engine no wear but uses oil due to knackered valve guide seals. I've got replacements too. But if youtrt going that far, for the love of god stick a 1.9 1Y engine in her. (only prob is you'll losethat 50mpg you currently enjoy and be down to 35mpg but its worth it)

The van is brilliant on fuel. Only used a couple of gallon all the way from Scotland to York!! Mindst you, the one pulling the trailer it was on used a Hell of a lot!

BTW, what does 1Y actually stand for? Is it just a code or is the Y an initial for something? (sorry if this is stooooopid!).

Crack open the champagne! Sounds a good 'un. AND I've got heaters!!

Weldore, you're the man! Thanks a million. Just waiting for mechanic to double check it and do final adjustments but all looks well. Now for the bodywork

I'll whip head off the old engine and see what's what then let you all know.

Re: Overheating above 40mph (1.6 Diesel)
Taken the head off and looking for cause of overheating. Can't see anything obvious, or am I missing something? I noticed the top hose to plastic front to rear pipe will not fit so an "adapter" has been fitted which makes the hose too long and causes it to kink a bit. Maybe this was the problem?
See pics below, sorry they aren't brill.
3rd pic shows a possible problem on extreme left of head, what do you think?
