Fridge Wiring on Danbury same as Westy?

I have had my van for about 10 years and have finaly managed to get the Zig properly connected. Put in the Leisure battery that was missing and moved all the lecky aprat from the lights over to the LB

Fridge Question

I have a Zig CF6 and a Zig RM12 relay (connects to coil), The fridge conects via the relay, which works fine engine off no power / engine on cool beer

From what I can see this set up means that I don't have an option to connect the fridge by hook up at a site? In effect you can only run the fridge on 12V when driving.
When I stop I will have to run the fridge on Gas I am pretty sure it the same on a Westy?

Is that correct or am I being a numpty?

I guess its no problem, but I need to move my fridge into the awning to run on gas as the fridge exhaust for gas is not hooked up.
Also I will be connected to hook up anyway, so it would be nice to use that rather than to burn gas I have to fill up.

As I understand it, it all depends on the fridge, some are 3 way - 12v, 240v & gas - and some aren't.
If it's a 3 way it should have it's own socket to plug into which is usually "somewhere out of the way". If it's got the wiring for 240v then I'm sure someone can help with the practicalities of fitting a socket for it. Be careful with the gas flue and the awning though, they do get quite hot.

Just to make things a bit clearer..

My fridge is a new 3 way fridge - it does have a flu, but its on top, I'd need to make some kind of swan neck for it to exit the van...

Using the volt meter - Power 12V to the fridge when the engine runs only, but when hooked up to site (used a home plug hook up) all the other Zig electrics are working, but no Fridge power. Looking at the circuits I assume the relay which connects to the Coil is the not switching (why would it) as the engine is off.

So my thinking no fridge power on hook up.

I guess I could take a separate switched wire off the Leisure battery connection on the Zig, but If I forgot to swich it off the LB would be empty in no time...?

I was under the impresion that as its a 3 way ie has 240 you manually switch it on when hooked up????

That would be perfect, but when I connect to a Hook up the firdge is getting no power to its 12V supply.

I was wondering what other folk do who have a fridge linked to a relay

The 12 volt power should only be live when the engine is running, even through a Zig I think. On hook up the fridge shouldn't be being powered by the 12v system so that seems to be working correctly.

The 240v power should have an on/off switch on the fridge and have it's own fused supply for when your "on site" is there a circuit or a seperate switch for this from your Zig? When on hook up have you got working "household" electrical sockets or do you just have a system to keep the leisure battery charged and act as a transformer?

Ok, that makes sense, I only have 12V for hook up.

I guess I need to run a separate chunk of electrickery to have 240v.

Can I run this alongside the Zig unit?

Lots of info on here about installing 240v system (and on SBMCC) but if you're not confident with it get someone else to do it. It's straighforward and you could couple it in with your existing zig set up. Basically you need a consumer unit like in a garage or a shed to supply the circuits to the sockets and the fridge, protected with breakers, a big one and 2 little ones for the circuitry (not a technical explanation there).

At least it means what you have got is working correctly at the moment as far as it goes
