VAcum unit on jx diesel

Post by orangescotty »

I have a vacum unit on my pump.....it seems to be leaking oil.....the small pipe is attached from the in let manifold
but there is another small pipe on the vacum unit that seem to be squrting oil all over the engine and engine bay...

any ideas as all my knowledge is air cooled

If it's leaking it's f**ked.
Click
Your van will also be sh*t slow too as it won't be getting any extra fuel to go with the boost.

Thanks Simon, you seem the absolute guru / super hero when it comes to the type 25 diesel...

do you meen the unit its self ? should there be oil in it ? do I have breather/ turbo issues as well?

I understand that fault dianosticks are vertualy impossible over the net but any advise is so welcome...

since fitting new injectors I would say it goes well....3000 miles round Italy last month !

The diaphram in question is called the LDA.
It takes boost pressure from the inlet manifold and converts it into linear motion, this linea motion os converted into rotart motion via the pivot on the top of the pump.
This shaft when turned gives you more fuel on boost.
If it's leaking it means the diaphragm is leaking, meaning that a) you have a boost leak and b) your not getting the right amount of fuel for the amount of boost you have, but this is a double edged sword, as more fuel means more heat, which means more boost, so with the LDA knackered then not only are you not getting the extra fuel to go with the boost but your not creating any extra heat and therefore not creating as much boost as you should.
Replace the LDA and all will be back to normal.
Inlet air is naturally oilly, don't worry about the oil, worry about the LDA.
