Tyre Rotation

Post by slobbo »

Ok I know you've got to do it but why? I have just discovered that the wheels on mine haven't been done and now it is too late. If I get a flat and need to swap the spare on how long before the damage begins?
Cheers
Rob.

I am guessing the answer is - Just don't do it. Either that or it is one of those things that people say don't do but don't really know why.

Ok Slobbs ......... here's what I'm doing.

I have 5 Michelins which were brand new a few months ago and I'm (well, some t-wat is anyway) going to `do` the 5 rotation jobby every 2000 mls. It's quite looking good for the boy CJ to show-off with his 4 million torque cordless thingy he has..

If you need to use the spare you can disconnect the drive shaft to avoid damage. I currently drive with 3 different brands of tires (yes, i know it's illegal but i just can't afford new ones this year) and have had no problems so far.

VC 'senses' difference in wheel rotation speeds, if one tyre is bigger than another then the VC will think it needs to couple the 4wd.

Result is VC working very very hard all the time, leading to eventual failure.
At least that's how i understand it....

Much better to get some shiny new tyres i reckon.

That means 5 new ones for me then - as I have 4 road tyres on the van and an AT spare (only discovered that on Wednesday). How do you work a 5 tyre rotation - what's the pattern?

Looks like we've both inherited the same problem Rob!

What tyres are you using? I'm wondering what to put on my 14" syncro.

Yes, fronts wear quicker...

Slobbo - haven't you owned a Syncro for a few years now - is this news to you

If you have 4 good semi worn, you can always have a new 5th shaved down to match at a tyre specialist....
