Refitting water pump belt

Post by Wavehead »

I am struggling to refit my water pump belt after removing the pump to fit a new gasket. Am I right on assuming that the pulley attcahed to the pump by three bolts has to be removed? it appears to be seized on and despite a few gentle taps does not want to budge. I have left it soaking in WD50 for the time being but does anyone have any suggestions please ....?

Loosen the alternator and you should be able to stretch it on easy enough, then tighten the alternator back up.

Thanks, but the alternaor and mounting bracket have been removed so would not make any difference. The more I look at it, I am more convincd that I will need to remove the pulley from the water pump which is a pain as it is seized on. Haynes manual is pretty useless and does not mention how to fit the belt.
If at first you don't succeed, destroy all evidence that you tried.
