Would this Failt the MOT?
Hi guys,
I have loked high and low but cannot seem to find an answer.
Basically i have purchased a T25 and it has had an engine conversion. Now for some reason the fuel pump seems to have been spliced onto the side light feed, so basically to turn the fuel pump on i need to have the side lights on.
Apparently it got through the last MOT like this. Would i be so lucky or is it a big no no? Obviously for the emissions test they will need to start her up.
Thanks

Re: Would this Failt the MOT?
Christ, it is a good job it wasn,t spliced into the indicators! Perhaps the previous owner was Sweedish (volvo) and have the side lights on all the time. Seriously though mate I dont think it will affect MOT but you really should get this changed. I am not a spert but I am sure someone on here will tell you how it should be done as they are usually very gentle with newbies. Hope you enjoy your van and good luck with the MOT. Re: Would this Failt the MOT?
cant see why it would fail an mot.
classify it as a modification but fully explain to the tester so it doesn`t cut out on him.

Re: Would this Failt the MOT?
Thanks for replies guys.
The engine is a 1.9 from a golf MK2 apparently, i only picked it up today and havnt had time to check for any engine codes. However I posted a pic from the ebay listing on a Mk2 forum and some seem to say its a K-Jet???

Bit of a pain really because a lot of the great info you guys have on this forum will not really relate to my engine.
A lot of work needs to be done, it hasn't had an MOT for 5 years. But it runs so thats a start lol, also doesn't seem to have any structural rust (touch wood).
I have a few hundred pounds available at moment so first goal is getting it MOT'd, then onto the cosmetics. Liking the look of the roller technique
Any idea how much an auto sparky charges per hour nowadays?
Cheers

are you any good at all with electrics? do you own a multi meter?
where the pump takes its live feed from the side lights, needs to be re routed to the switched live on the ignition. that way the pump will spin up whenever you turn the key

Looks like either a 1.6 or 1.8 litre 8 valve K Jetronic engine as fitted to GTI golf/Jetta Audi 80 Sport etc.
Really simple and easy to fix engine.

Re: Would this Failt the MOT?
All I can say to that is you must have a very strange driving style if you can switch off the lights by overtaking!
