sorry but wiki aint workin !!! where do i finf me coolant thermostat? i really need to test it,

If it's an early dg, the thermostat housing is metal and bolted onto the side of the water pump, fairly central in this photo. The yellow and red wire goes to the temp sender on the t'stat housing.

cool cheers for that so i take it i gotta open that up n take it out n test, its a 1983 n i can see its the same as mine, cheers dan

You're probably gonna have to remove the housing from the water pump to open it up (having drained the cooling system first), but I could be wrong about that. Personally I wouldn't bother testing the thermostat, if you think it's playing up and you don't know when it was last replaced, just pop over to Brickwerks for a new one:

Be careful not to damage that t'stat housing because they're not so easy to come by now, only available second hand from breakers etc.
