As a matter of interest... I took out a window on my camper last year which had small areas of rust including a complete missing lip in one corner, about three inches long. Now, I hadn't used this site properly, and just did what I thought best - I sanded it down, put loads of anti rust stuff in, painted it with primer, then filled the holes with liquid metal and 'made' a lip, then painted again and finally top coat and stuck the window back in... there have been no more bubbles or mess in almost a year?

Surely, making a new lip for small areas for somebody with no welder or welding skills IS feasible? What could go wrong with it?

Seriously, some metallic fillers like Dinitrol's aluminum loaded filler is pretty good...

and of course depends entirely on what has rusted away and how well any filler will be supported by remaining sound structure.

Haha - fair enough - I think sometimes, with all the jobs needed on my van, that I can't always a aford a proper job!

Metal fillers create a stronger and more flexible repair than a standard body filler.

If you do go this route, cut out any serious rust, and spray surrounding surface rust with something like this RC900
before applying the filler.

some of my windows had metal plates in the corners ,shaped and pop rivetted in and filled over...HAD being the operative word...BUT...they would have been better than just filler imho

Yup, also occurred to me that well-made and fitted flush rivetted fillet plates might create a sounder structure for subsequent filling if welding is out of the question.
