i had some spare wire , tinned , brown sheath , loads of it , so i connected my "new" 2 rear wiper/wash assy using it , it being 2.5 mm2 , is this too heavy a wire for such a situation ?

better to have oversize than t'other way around Jaylo, if its all done and connected/routed nicely I would leave it be. When winter comes and the wipers freeze to the glass you might be glad you have the extra current capacity in the wiring!

ta for reply , AngeloEvs -- the ting is , my temporary connection to check out whether the motor works is simply a bit of thin wire to the battery pos + neg, tried each of the two thick wiresas pos and seems to work ok on one ,wiper a bit slow tho , BUT the thin wire gets very hot -- the thin wire does not seem that much thinner than the OEM coloured wires from steering boss to the relay box area , so am a bit :? and worried in case we goes oop in flames.

Hmm, difficult to asses without seeing it but wire getting hot not good. Could be motor could be incorrect gauge but something amiss I fear.
