Spare wheel carrier removal

Hi,
Daft question but how do you get the spare wheel carrier off the van. I need to remove it to be able to change my radiator.

Followed haynes advice and removed the clips that secure the rods on the hinge side of the carrier. Assumed these would just then tap out. How wrong am I? Mine wont budge. Am I missing something obvious or will they just be seized. Left em soaking & came in before i took the hacksaw to em.

yes once clips removed they tap or bang out!

try 'closing' the carrier before tapping them out , and when one is nearly out do the other one.

I was trying to tap them out with the lid closed. Obviously i need to give em a bigger clout or get a bigger hammer. Soak em a bit longer i reckon too. LOL

I have just done the very job. I used a small rod as a punch and a hammer.came out pretty easy.
Go for it.
Ps while you are at it grease your gear linkage. If you nail an old paintbrush to some sort of rod about 18 inches long you can use it to grease the linkage between the fuel tank and the chassis.

Got a bigger hammer and old screwdriver to use as a punch and thumped both sides good a nd hard. I'm guessing that they've never been out since the van was built as they come some belting to shift.

Got em out anyway and managed to remove the lot fairly easily. The radiator was a breeze after that. My mate has re-tapped the thread where the bleeding bolt goes and we've put in an oversize bolt to see if that seals. If not its new rad time. Cant really complain the date on this one is april 1985 - not bad as my van is an august 1985 so prob original.

Gonna grease all i can see whilst its all off.

Wish everything was this simple.
