Do 15" rims fit over SA brakes?

Post by slobbo »

Long story but I bought a lovely RHD standard 14" Syncro after missing out on the blue galvanised beast then proceeded to swap vehicles with the owner of the blue beast. I now have said beast and have played in my local bing and have found the enormous wheels and tyres tend to bottom out and scrape if things get a bit bouncy. The Rims are Merc 8 x 16" running Bridgestone Dueler M/T LT225/75R16. Suspension is lifted but not sure by how much. Clearance between the wheel and arch is pretty poor when compared to a 16". I have read the wiki re the safest tyre size on 15" rims but what options if any on 16" rims? If I have to go 15" rims does anyone know if the 15" wheel fit over the SA brakes?

Also bottomed out whilst turning aggressively after a late brake so keen not to do any damage to the body work as fully galvanised panels are going to be non existent.
Cheers
Rob.

15's do fit but this will depend on whot 15's you use.
Or use 215 75 16's.

Would the BFG All Terrain LT215/70R16 100 R do the job?

To continue the story ... I'm pretty sure that when I looked into it, that there weren't going to be any hassles. Hope all is well with the van.

Don't worry Ben nothing wrong with the beast. Just the tyres are a bit big when you go over the rough stuff. Normal clearance issues when you put big wheels on a 14" chassis. Drives lovely on the road.

Cool - we're stoked with the swap and really loving the white van. Did they make 16" South African syncros? If not, it would be - I presume - a fair bet that the SA kit is intended to work with 14" rims and therefore okay with 15". Good to hear that all is going well.

Cheers,

Ben

Will be keeping the 16" wheels but going for smaller tyres. That should do the trick. Will be a while before it happens though.
