broken manifold stud

broken manifold stud
Looking over my van, I noticed that the top stud on the n/s manifold has snapped and stuck in the cyl. head. it's not blowing but dare say it needs fixing. Is this going to entail a large garage bill or is it comparatively easy to sort?

If there not much to grip to turn it you will have to drill
drilling a broken stud out is tricky. but possible.

weld a nut on to the stud soak in wd40 leave to penatrate and it should come out

Hi,
There is no stud showing. looks like i'll have to drop the exhaust. it is the top stud facing you on the nearside (nearest the bumper). Has anyone done this with the engine in place or is it an "engine out" case?

Early exhaust or later type ?
Early - watch out for breaking more head studs in the process.
Later - watch out for breaking more head studs in the process PLUS breaking pipe joining studs / bolts
Sorry to disagree with a previous poster, but don't use WD40 - Use "Plus Gas" = MUCH MUCH better and apply it a few times the day before you start work on it.

If you have to drill it, it will be engine out afraid
Drilling em out is a job frought with trouble unless you have :-
A - Done it a few times before.
B - Have a load of VERY good quality twist drills.
C - Have VERY good eyesight and a VERY steady hand.
D - Have lots of patience ( Oh and good luck too )
