yesturday fitted a new thermostat and blue darlek filled and bled the system .now after a short while the red flashy light comes on and keeps flashing which it wasnt before the header tank is not boiling now but the temp guage (still not working)and the flashy light are now driving me mad.back to the wiki ! :idea:

If yours is a post 86 van, remove the LSCU (looks like a relay, in the fuse box, position three and marked 42 or 43). If the red light stops flashing with the LSCU removed then the fault is in the coolant level sender circuit and you can concentrate on that. If it continues flashing and the tempeerature gauge is not reading and the LSCU is removed then the gauge could be defunct (unlikely but a possibility). The light also flashes when the gauge goes over to the right to indicate high temperature but I would expect the gauge to be working. Remove the LSCU and see what effect it has first. You also need to confirm the gauge is working and that is covered in one of the links Grun has posted.

The LSCU is number 43.

I have 3 of these and none of them seem to work correctly, but all have different faults !!

The one I am currently using does most of what it is supposed to do, except flash the LED when the probes are not in water :cry:

Two LSCU's available, both interchangeable but different chipsets in them, marked 43 or 42 depending on chipset. I have a spare working one if you want to try it......pM me and will send you ....

sorry chaps been busy with the kids this weekend not had a chance to remove the lscu yet but will try tommorow thanks will let you know how i get on !

had some water drippin off the end of my oil filter today got under neath but i could not see where this was coming from ,its a bit congested there im guessing it could be the water pump seal . it never rains but it pours !!!!!!!!!!

I found the water leak it was a small l shaped pipe behind the water pump wheel what a pig that was to change.still its done now,temp guage still not working ,the lscu is number 43 ive removed it and it doesnt seem to make any difference.mind you the red light wasnt flashing when i removed it . :ok

temp guage still not working

Temperature gauge.......... 10 volt leccy goes in one side, t'other side goes to earth via the 'sender'.
(Sender is a resistor which varies in value with the coolant temperature).
The wiring has several connections on the way.

From a previous post by AngeloEvs..........

Shorting the yellow/red wire at the temperature sender to the engine block should make the temperature gauge work (ignition on), then:-

a) confirm that the brown wire at the temperature sender connects to earth ( use the engine block as an earth).

b) visually check the condition of the terminals at the sender.

c) measure the resistance of the sender itself (they do go open circuit) by placing the probes directly across the sender terminals.

Cold Engine anywhere between 2000 ohms and 1000 ohms

Hot engine approx 100 ohms

Sorry if this is a silly question.

I am a little lost because my camper has a golf gti engine installed when i bought it. The temp gauge does not work at all, i found a yellow and red wire which had a spade on it and i connected it to kind of water valve attached to the front (long side) of the head.

You can see it just behind the brown connection with the 2 black wires attatched. ( This is used for the cold start valve on the Ljet)

However there is also another water flange on the side (short end) which has a connection for a spade too.

Am i connecting this all wrong?

if you have a t25 manual and the golf manual check out both wiring diagrams then you can work out what goes where and mate up the electrics !how is the performance of your t25 with the gti motor ? would love to know , i have recently looked at one with a 2.2 five cylinder audi motor in the back .

can anyone please tell me which relay or fuse controls the fuel pump on an 88 2.1 dj caravelle cheers !!!
