where to put the baby?

Post by Team28crew »

Im trying to sort out the sleeping arrangements for my van, its an 1986 leisuredrive hitop double bed up top and double RnR downstairs, 5 year old up top, Mrs and me downstairs, 6 month old baby ???????. :?
The Mrs has suggested me up top with our eldest, but at 6ft and 16.5st its a squeeze (beside not sure if I can get up), and the Mrs on the RnR with the baby.
I was just wondering what other folk do with their little people, oh and dumping him with the grandparents is not an option

i made one for the cab for my 9yr old and one for the rear for my 5 yr old.

i bought 2 lengths of tube that fit in to each other and just cut them to size, i bought the bunk mounts off jk and then welded flat bar to the ends of the tube and ground them to shape so they fit nicely in to the jk mounts.

some canvas kindly stiched up by my mum and bingo all 4 of us can sleep without popping the pop top. the rear also doubles as aparcell shelf saying that the rear was a little more involved as i had to make a mounting that stands off the rear window pannel and reinforce the cupboard on the drivers side rear.

May be going the wrong way for you , but when our nippers were v.little, I fixed a netting to the front of our poptop Autohomes top bed , and angled the sliding base part a little , that kept em in , even when we had to drive like that 4 miles up Cairngorm to avoid the desperat MIDGES at the sugarbowl carpark. Had finished the wine, too --carried burning barbecue on bike rack so started again at top carpark.

Thanks for the ideas and and replies folks, think I going to go down the cab bunk route, the PSB looks like it might interfere with the rear 3 point seat belts, I like the idea of Jaylos net idea but will wait until the boys a bit older before sticking him up top. Now rear mounted Bar-b-que/bike rack thats a good idea :idea
