VIN Error on UK Registration Certificate

Post by Trilobyte_simon »

Hi there,

I'm in a real fix and wonder if anyone can help.
I have a 1986 Westfalia Syncro brought over from Germany 3 years ago.

I have checked the VIN - on the underside, log book sticker, sticker above pedals and on plaque inside passenger door.
They all match. It matches the VIN on original germany documentation.

The vehicle VIN is WV2ZZZ 25Z FG116450
However my UK vehicle certificate VIN is incorrect: WV2ZZZ Z0 25Z FA116450 - OBVIOUSLY WRONG.

Q Is there anything suspicious here?
Q How do i go about changing the Vehicle Certificate to the correct VIN?

Thanks, Simon

I'd be tempted to just fill in the correct number on the log book and send it off to them for changing. You could put a covering letter explaining that you've only just noticed the error. Did you import it yourself and do your Gs look like As? :D

I wouldn't think it's anything to worry about, probably just a typo or a slip of the pen, someone reading a G as an old fashined big a as a capital ? They do often miss print info in my experience so it's always worth checking the docs as soon as you receive them though. You could do worse than just give them a ring to sound it out.

Have you got the German export papers still, you could let DVLA have a copy to prove the correct VIN.

It must be a mistake over here, The VIN on the log book would mean your Syncro was assembled at ingolstadt instead of Austria.

Good luck getting it sorted, (and dont forget to keep copies of any original docs you have to post to them)i

I had the same with my Beetle, the MOT spotted it and then the DVLA got in touch. I had to get it inspected at the local DVLA office and take all docs I had for the car and then they sorted a new new logbook for it which arrived by post a couple of weeks later, job done, nothing to worry about mate. :ok

I also had this with my mini that I'd owned for 8 years it was finally picked up by the last mot, and then the DVLA wrote to me, I simply sent them copies of the old old log book etc, and any paper work I had, and they changed it. It was a obviously an error when they switched over from microfishe.

It shouldnlt cause you to much hassle

Hiya,

I too had this problem, I didn't check the new v5 when I imported mine, the MOT chap spotted the c*ck up and the DVLA wrote to me. Just had to send the old v5 and fill in a form.... all sorted.
