anyone taken off a high roof to put on poptop?

Post by mikestef »

We have a high top syncro 16"and want to put on a viking roof, which we have already from a donor van.We know its probably going to be a little tricky as most of the roof on our van has been cut off ..Has anyone here done this conversion?we are thinking one possibility is to cut the whole roof off the donor van and use that on our new van! Any advice ?Thanks Stefany

mikestef, it would be helpful to other 80-90ers if you posted your location under your username on the left. :D

If you have a high top I would stick with that. I used to have one before I bought a solid sided pop-top & it was more convenient overall. The high top is useful for storage eg. bedding & you don't have to empty the 'upstairs' whenever you want to go for a drive. :)

Yes I will put that info in,I can see it would be handy to know!As regards the high top,we are a family of four and with the viking roof we can all sleep up top ,it was one of the reasons we went for a T3 in the first place.Time will tell if it works out or not!S

Hi Mike Stef,

if you manage to get the change over sorted you will not be at all disappointed.

we manage to sleep six in ours reasonable comfortably. It gets a bit crowded in the morning when people are getting up but the actual sleeping is excellent.

Not sure that you will get four persons up top though??

we have a double up top situated over the rear of the van, a single up top over front of van. a tiddler accross the front cab seats of the van and a nice rock and roll double bed in the rear.

good luck, we have not been at all disappointed with ours. we had harboured desires for a splitty however we really like our 2L Aircooled T25 and won't down grade to a splitty now :)
