Whats best to clean my engine with... also missing rubber?
Hello i've got bit of a oil leak and I dared to venture under my van with haynes manual in hand! i was very proud however all i could see was dirty old oil and lumps of it all congiled type stuff SO being typical me! I want to clean it all off then have the theory oil leak will be easier to see! So how is best to (and if possible the easiest!) way to clean all the old rubbish off the underneath bottom of my engine?
Also i noticed at bustypes that alot of peoples hightops had a rubber around the roof...... Mine hasn't.. I'm always have leaking problems and maybe this doest help! SO perhaps mine needs one? not tha ti can see where it fits onto...
Any help would be grateful recieved many thanks

The only suggestion I can give you is get the ar-e end as high as possible ie axle stands or ramps and chock the front wheels to stop any forward movement,====
.
Then get underneath and remove any sump gards or Tinware, Then put a pair of safty gogs on an Spray with any hand held common garden spray bottle with a degreasant and poke or scrub with a 1inch brush, repeatedly hose or jetwash off,-----------
Have Fun-------------------------------

you don't say if you have a factory conversion or not.
mine has no rubbers on the sides .
Sykaflex is the sealant you need.

Re: Whats best to clean my engine with... also missing rubber?
Thank you all for your replies, i've heard of GUNK before actualy so will try that route i think, just not parked on my driveway(rented house n landlord already not happy with odd oil drip!) I'm not worried about getting dirty or hard work just learning how to do stuff and decieded to start doing things myself!
As for the rubber i saw it went all the way round the hightop where it meets the van above windscreen back window and just above the rain gutters, I was just cuoius why mine didn't!
I have had mine sikalflexed before but they filled my gutters with it too! and it has bubbles wholes n wells for rain to leak thru so i think i need it re doing can't go around with duck tape on it all the time!
Thanks for all your help x

Kim
What engine is it ?
Go steady when cleaning the engine , loads of rubber seals under there ( if its a petrol A/C or W/C) , and you need to be extra careful around the push-rod tube seals ,
Could just be the sump-washer needs replacing ,which can be done at service time. Unless its pea'ing out I'd leave it alone. You could make it worse.
