1.7 diesel cooling problem

Post by togga »

I was driving up the M1 towards Nottingham this morning when my van started overheating. I limped towards Donnington services & the temperature needle then stopped working. When I stopped she was steaming & boiling, I let her cool down & topped her up before slowly heading into Nottingham. I left her for a few hours whilst I went to work & on returning to take a look I've now got a lot of air in the system, not much coolant as the header tank was empty & the temp gauge not working. Any suggestions or do I need the AA to give me a lift home tomorrow?

I would top it up fully with water and see if there is an obvious leak. Split hoses are quite common.

Did your water light flash before it started overheating?

How many miles has the engine done?

I would offer to take a look but im working away from home as usual...
