Petrol up - not the price; the 'RON'

Post by 1664 »

I put premium in the van. It doesn't like standard 95 RON unleaded and a sticker next to the filler says '98 RON'. The premium I've been using has been 97 RON from Tesco's mainly and the vans run fine on it. I went to fill up my mum's car and as I was stood there I noticed on the premium pump the sticker now reads '99 RON'. Presumably too high an octane won't have any detremental effect on my van will it?? (I'm anticipating it will have a detremental effect on my wallet though)

I'd rather not fix what ain't broke Matt. Plus it was specifically designed for premium in the first place. As long as the higher octane doesn't harm it, I'll keep to the devil I know...........and yes, one day I'll gas it

No it won't harm it, this only relates to the fuels ability to resist pre-igniting when hot, (some people think it's somehow higher performance lol) then again if you engine suffers from a lot of pre-ignition it would make your engine more powerful lol.
