poor runnung when hot

Post by gixersteven »

Hi i have a 1986 westfalia joker with a 2.1 engine

Code: Select all

i beleive. Has been sat all winter. I took it for its first drive this morning and everything seemed great while driving. Drove for around 1 hr on dual carrige ways, Back roads and town driving with no problems. When i got home and parked on the drive i decided to try my night heater, I did this while the engine was running as the leisure battry is low on charge. While it was ticking over on the drive the cooling fan cut in after around 5 mins and went off again as you would expect but all off a sudden the tick over became erratic and wouldn't rev freely. I took the van for a short drive and it seems to be holding back. When i got home and switched it off it refused to start again as if out off petrol. Had been to the garage on my trip and put in twenty quids worth of petrol. Left to stand for twenty minutes and went outside and started no problem 1st turn. Seems to be running purfect although i didnt have time to test drive. Any help much appreciated.

I had a similar problem with my MV 2.1.....turned out to be a faulty Lambda sensor. It is fairly easy to check but you need the fault to re-appear.
When it starts to splutter and hold back unplug the sensor plug (you will have to trave the probe back from the CAT into the engine bay and pull the plug apart there. IF is runs smoothly as soon as it is unplugged this will confirm a faulty probe.

Thanks for the advice. I didn't think to mention that the lambda sensor has been removed and a stainless exhaust fitted. I dont think this is related to my problem as this was done last may and no problems up until now. Sorry about that, Cheers Steve
