CS to ME engine

Post by Dubwana »

Greetings all:

Will soon be changing my T25 CS engine to a Golf ME (that I haven't seen yet). Its not for speed its just my engine blew and this one was available.I believe its a pretty much pull it out and drop it in changeover. I know it will make no appreciable difference to driving but hopefully the new one will work whereas the old one didn't. However there are a couple of questions I have before I start that are based on reading the site and the wiki and a few helpful comments on another posting. If anyone has the answers I'd appreciate your comments.

Is it necessary to change the sump over?

Does this require a change of the oil pump or of the oil pump pick up pipe? Can the pipe only be swapped over?

Do I have to change the pulley on the engine to drive the T25 alternator?

I'm assuming the gearboxes are different so will need to change the bell housing over.

Are the flywheel and the clutch interchangable?

What exactly is a spiggot bearing that has to be changed/replaced/inserted? Does the t25 not have one?

Excuse please my ignorance. Haven't changed an engine since the 80's so am a bit out of practice.

many thanks,

Dubwana

I am not sure what a ME code engine is it diesel or petrol ? Anyway hear is a swop list ( angled sump / oil pump flywheel /clutch /spigot bearing / bottom pulley /water pump/alternator/ exhaust/inlet manifold/airbox.The spigot bearing inserts into the crankshaft flywheel end.If you have a VW dealer the spigot bearing is a available replacement part. The T25 diesel oil pump & pick up should be used .Use the existing T25 gearbox&bell housing.

Thanks camper. Its a diesel 1.6. Basic standard engine just a little bit newer than the original 1.6d that I had in it. Appreciate the comments. have a VW dealer but they never have any parts. But bearings of virtually every size and type are available so I'm sure we can find something. Enjoy the spring! Dubwana
