Insulation,The Bulley-Hewlett way!!

I nead some advice please!I have read Bulley-Hewletts piece on heat,rust and noise.He seems to know his stuff!and lays it all out in an easy to follow fashion(quite enjoyable and humourous !)If thats what it takes to do the job,well thats what it takes.We are new to the T3 game,we have only had ours a couple of days!So what I would really like is to hear from anyone who has tryed doing it the Bulley-Hewletts way.Is it OTT?I just want to do it right the first time around.Or please any one with advice of what to do and what NOT to do would also be greatly appreciated!I really want to make a start asap,Thanyou,Stefany

It's like a lot of things, you can be meticulous and do a lovely job, like BH.

If you've got a nice warm well-lit workshop and another vehicle to drive, 6 months and plenty of free time and cash, you could strip your van, sort out the bodywork, mechanicals, install heating and insulation, paint it, drop it and set it running on beautiful alloys.

If like me you want to use it daily... you compromise.

BH says fill voids. It adds weight and you'd better be damn sure you aren't trapping water in there... but filling voids WILL improve NVH and could transform your van...

Agree with everything but that.. yes, but insulation isn't that heavy it matters

Bit like the 7/32" pivot pin that kills in a light aircraft because it should be 1/4"... what's a couple of grams compared to the pilot who's had a hearty breakfast or hasn't emptied his bladder before he climbs aboard.

A two ton+ T25 is still a two ton+ T25, you won't notice it.

Now if it's hygroscopic and all becomes sodden - then that's a bit of weight that might matter, in more than one way

And BH does makes the point about sealing the insulation hermetically

Thankyou for your replies! but I must admit you are loosing me!I think now I am more confused than when I started this thread!!I know at the end of the day I have to make my mind up on which products to use but...I was kinda hoping you would tell me what you guys would do if you were starting from scratch.I am willing and able to put the time in,we are not depending on our vw for every day transport so can work on it gradually.But we also want to enjoy it for the summer.Some jobs will have to wait but this one and also sorting out the engine seems to be top of the list(its a 2.1dj)So Bulley Hewlett advice is good but the materials have changed?He lists Q-pads,kool patch.nasa insulation,fiberglass ,rust prevention.
Is there a modern version of this idea? Thanks,Stefany

Do some web searching for modern acoustic insulation materials, there are quite a few high-tech sound and heat insualtion materials available now...
