New engine

Post by el sketcho »

Well the van's up at. Camper shack being re-fitted and in the meantime I've got to thinking about an engine transplant. When we were down at the 80-90 club meet at the fox and goose Captin Jake
was saying about fitting a 2.5tdi which I liked the sound of. My questions are.
Where's the best place to get one of these engines fitted?
How much work is needed to fit one of these?
Is it adivsable to get the gear box re done?
Would I be able to cruise at motorway speeds while not having to fight for posistion with lorries in the slow lane?
What's the best vehicle to get one of these engines out of?

Thinking about it probably should have put this on the alternative engine forum

Andy,,,,,the 2.5TDI is a motor fitted to a FWD T4 and won't fit in a T25 without quite a bit of work...................

The Subaru 2.2 16V is a good modern day option, but personally the 3.500cc engine fitted to the P6 and SD1 Rovers of times gone by are the dogs bllooks and can be easily fitted to a T25 with the aid of an adapter plate for the gearbox.

And will give you that instant SOAS effect............

I'm just repeating what I was told, but surely the 1.9 tc from a passat is an engine designed for a FWD vehicle? Anyway my van's a diesel and I'd like more oomph so what engine would people suggest?
