cheers steve. these are the kind of answers im lookin for lol. i might take you up on that mate, ive seen a few with the 4 button golf wheel and heard no complaints.
as for the dash cluster, ive only got alternater and oil warning lights to worry about
do you need to make any adjustments to the columb steve?
Same ere....MK1 Golf 4 button has been on for over two years now.
It took me approx 40 minutes all done (just a couple of small mods but nothing that can't be reversed) those little mounts and a few mm off the plastic couling so the wiper arm has clearance for washer operation (think that was it)
I do have power steering...

If you decide to go this route then you will need to raise the switches and the easiest way is to use Computer motherboard mounting posts.

just for size comparisons, this is what the 42 cm PAS wheel looks like from the drivers position:
I'm 6'1", so sitting fully back and fairly high up. This wheel fits without any mods, all switchery works as intended and you can still see all the warning lights.
i ended up putting a 4 button golf wheel on it. its heavier for low speed manouvering, BUT its a lot better for driving. the steering feels more immediate and seems easier to correct when a good cross wind gets hold of it. ive done over 200 miles in it over the weekend and i can already say i wont be rushing to put the big wheel back on.
As this is a popular modification I thought these may be of some help to people if they follow suit.
