Poor Starter Battery Earth

Post by AngeloEvs »

Might be worth checking yours, particularly if its an Autohomes. Suspected I had a problem, flickering headlights, LPG solenoids dropping out, etc. The earth point to chassis behind the drivers seat relies purely on the bolt thread for contact, Autohomes also add the Leisure system earth cables to this point and these had heavy deposits of copper sulphate. The thread of the bolt that secures the earth cables corrodes resulting in a poor earth. I was losing about 2V. If the bolt has corroded then expect it to shear. I removed the the paint from the area around the bolt ao that the earth is no longer reliant on the thread alone. You won't measure the voltage drop unless the ignition is on. I obtained 12.7V across the battery terminals but only 10.5V to chassis with ignition.
