Tailgate stand-off aka: ventilator
Summer is coming and soon we'll be able to wake up in our own personal sauna, so I'm on the hunt for the plans for those wonderful stand off brackets that used to be on the old site. They were a simple twisted plate with shaped holes each end to key to the latch and latch plate.
I've searched the old site and the Wiki and only came up with http://www.gowesty.com/ec_view_details. ... parent_id=" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
which is overly complex, and a long since dead link to somone selling them on Ebay.
I'm a college lecturer, so the plan is that I want a simple metal fabrication project for my students. If I can find a plan I'll get them to knock up a few and then sell them for a few quid to club members (and yes the money will go back to the students - all part of the learning to make and manage cash thing).
Can anyone help?

Why don't you get your students to "design" one?
The dimensions could easily be worked out.

Can make one quite easily out of piece of rod (5mm) like a heavy tent stake.
Is what I did. Have drawing for flat strap one as well. PM me your email address for more info.

Re: The Fritz Finger
There are many variations of the tailgate 'vent' strut, the ones I use to make were similar to the one described by Lloyd.

The bending bit was easy one vice and a adjustable spanner!!! Point to note tho when using a bench grinder to round the ends it gets bloooooming hot and if you then pick it up with bare hands you tend to burn your hand as I did
