Clutch slave cylinder's gone.

It's an easy job if you're OK with the old spanners

underneath the dash pod that covers the speedo etc ... reach behind it and there's 2 flat areas ... gently pull it upwards and towards you.

BTW the washer bottle's under the rubber mat on the front passenger footwell :ok

You not got a manual I assume ?

check to see if you have a 2ft plastic pipe leading to the clutch slave cylinder or the thick rubber hose, leading to an S bend metal brakes pipe style clutch pipe, if you do have the plastic pipe and it will not undo (which it will not ;) ) source the part first there are posts on this 'ere forum. mentioning brickwerks or indeed VW "commercial" directly it will be under £20 to replace. then you will have to cut through the pastic pipe, and feed a good ring spanner over the pipe to the join at the chassis, firmly hold the metal pipe and carefully undo the rest of the cut through plastic pipe. "carefully" otherwise you will need to replace more and more of the clutch pipe as you damage the joining bits.

most probably after all that post I will notice that you have an 1980's Aircooled....

it is actually hilarious trying to get the new bolts in, the one nearer the rear... oh man i nearly lost my patience on that one.... but it is achievable, it's worth having a good selection of tools handy.

:D Yep as they say clutch slave cylinder - £25ish. Just done mine. Quite easy apart from avoiding splitting the pipe which is an obsolete part & getting the bolts out. Loadsa diesel or penetrating fluid on the bolts seemed to do the trick.
Good luck.
