Whole lot easier if you fit the carb to the 2.1 ,few other things like the fuel pump ,other than that straight swap , If you stick with the inj. system then I do believe your looking at fitting a 2.1 petrol tank etc

You will need a new Fuel tank as the 2.1i has a swirl pot in it, and the fuel filter (if going injection route)

Leave the carb on....and its quite easy. more difficult if mating early water system to late water system, but do-able, cos we done it!! DIdn't change a fuel tank or pump. Used the one off the 1.9 I believe.

Are the exhaust systems compatible?

Just Kampers show a difference between the 2.1 and the 1900. Not sure what it is...apart from £60.00.

1900 system for £340 & 2.1 for £280.00

Am I missing something here?

The later type (~86 ->) 1.9 system has a heat take-off jacket around no.1 pipe which heats the air into the carb for very cold countries, the 2.1injection doesn't .... however in the UK climate neither require this and it's £60 (?) wasted.
