sorry to get in on this thread, but i will be doing this soon aswell. so this mastic stuff is used to seal the vent cover to THE outside panel? my electrolux metal cover would not need much sealing as is very thin material in places..can the 19mm wide mastic be slimmed down? is it a roll?
Could this also be used to seal around the pipe which comes through the panel from the fridge? or would you use something else?

Thanks

The pipe doesn't need sealing to the panel. Just seal the edges of the outer plate.

I think it will, i have the original aluminium electrolux style metal cover, of which i'm sure has gaps all around it, so if the pipe isn't sealed the van will fill up with water...i'll sanity check it on Saturday.

Mine is original and no water gets into the van through it and the pipe isn't sealed to the bodywork. I just followed what is written below.

Fridge installation manual says

"Use a soft sealing compound between the flange of the flue outlet and the wall of the caravan to prevent ingress of rain water. Then fit outer cover by means of 4 screws"

No mention of needing to seal the flue pipe in the hole in the panel as the inner flange is water sealed and the outer cover prevents rain from getting to the hole.

Oh ok...i'll check what my manual says..i'm sure it mentions a using a non flammable sealant or filler to seal around pipe....?

I'll dig it out and have a look...and quote fridge serial number and make..

What fridge have you got? as mine was replaced a few years ago..

thanks for that, and that is what my fridge is supposed to have too...when the guy previous to me bought the van it had that flu/vent in the side (due to new fridge) + the original old style aluminium square silver one. That panel was replaced due to rot etc...i bought the van as was, and am looking at putting the old style aluminium silver one in, as i think it looks better...but will have to adapt to the later fridge.
