Leisure Battery Average Life on a trip?

Post by raker »

Hey guys,

I have a cool box that runs of 12V and 240V. I also have a a fridge that runs off 12v and gas?

If I use the fridge off the 12V does this run off the leisure battery? Also, what sort of time does the leisure battery last for and does it require charging off the vehicle or does the van charge it off the alternator?

I'm planning a trip tomorrow for the day and would like to run the cool box off the leisure battery.

Thanks!

:ok

What conversion have you got?

Usualy the fridge will not run off the leisure, it runs off the alternator.
when your parked up the gas should be used
Usually the both starter and aux are charged from the alternator via a split charge relay.

Why run a cool box when you have a fridge??.. how odd

Does the fridge continue to run off the main battery if the engine's not running?

I know that might be a dim question but I know the radio doesn't cut out when the ignition is turned off - I have to take the front off it which I think stops it draining power but I can't be sure!

No a relay should drop out when the ignition is off automatically disconnecting it.

I have a Devon Conversion.

I just bought it hence the coolbox/fridge! Haven't figured out what's what yet!!! :D

The console on the interior has a switch for the fridge - I'm assuming this switches the fridge on via the 12v [off the alternator?] What's the leisure battery for then?

I have a Devon as well.
Like Kev said, the 12v for the fridge will only work when the engines on, and even then, mine will only come on once the alternator has put some charge back in the vehicle battery before sacrificing power to ancillaries. so its normally 15 mintues of driving before the fridge clicks on. Its easy to see this because on my switch panel, the fridge switch is the illuminated type so its only working when the switch is on and illuminated. Assume this is the same as yours.

For whats its worth, i never use the 12v on the fridge, but thats just me, i usually just keep the fridge closed during the day then plug into 240v at night.

The reason for the leisure battery is to save your vehicle battery from discharging from prolonged use of internal lights and another items you may have running off the leisure. (some guys here have 12v TVs and the like)

hope thats of some help
