Hi all. Its a 1.9 dg with a standard peirberg carb or what ever the name is. It starts fine as if its using the choke as it idles fast, now before when it got warm I just gave it a rev and the idle speed droped nicely to a nice tick over. Now it just sits idling high as if the chokes stuck on as when I rev it the revs dont drop. It was doing it a while ago and sorted its self out then I had a new engine fitted and it seems to come back. I've would the idle screw the long one out all the way and it doesnt make a difference. I would realy like some help here as I've got tonight to sort it as we're off to Cornwall tomorrow evening. Oh I also took off the top cover off (with the engine running) the carb and when it was warm (but idling high) the choke butterfly was open as it should be... I guess.
Cheers

The auto choke is connected to a stepped part which is the fast idler.
if the fast idle is stuck on then ...
either the bi-metal spring is broken or more likely the assembly needs some love (clean and oil the bearing in the housing)
Carefully disconnect the cables and pipes get the carb off and locate the Auto choke housing,
Once off you can check the fast idle operation
As the choke is set the fast idle will set too as the auto choke allows the mechanism to operate
Once warm the Bi metal spring turns and pulls the fast idle off
if necessary remove the three screws holding the housing on to check operation
a haynes would be useful here too

Mine seems to be doing the same. There is also a lot of water vapour from the exhaust when fast idling with the choke. Once the choke is turned off there is virtually no water vapour. Is this of any concern ?
