"knocking" Noise....Info Required!

Post by mwheatley »

Hi All,

I have recently noticed a "knocking" noise from the rear of the camper (sounds like drivers side....LHD van) that speeds up & slows down with the speed of the van, being more noisy when slower such as pulling up to traffice lights and almost unoticable when at speed. I have had a mechanic take a quick look at the wheels for wheel bearing problems & he says that the wheel bearings on drivers side are fine & a little worn on passenger side (rear), but if it was wheel bearings this should make more noise when going faster! Any help with this problem would be appreciated.

Also, does anyone know a good place to get wheel bearings, as the mechanic was quoted £150 for the part only!

Many thanks.

Thanks Rob, will take a look and see if that's the problem. Thanks for the link, somewhat cheaper than the quote I was given!

Check the CV joints. They are the usual culprits and should be replaced as an entire set of four.

The Haynes manual tells you how to remove and replace them. Replacing CV joints is not as bad as it sounds.
