Alternative to headlining

Mine has timber battens glued to the roof, insulation in between, and carpeted hardboard screwed on to the battens. The board is in panels, to make it easier to shape and fit - for example there are 3 along the roof itself, plus each side, etc.
It is a high top, but the same principle should work for a tin top.
The carpet is that thin ribbed wall-lining stuff specially for campers etc, and you can get it in any colour or finish you like (try http://www.woolies-trim.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; )
The conversion is probably 15 to 20 years old, and the battens have not fallen off yet!

there are a few t3's being scrapped currently, you could buy the bow's from one, then have a roof lining made up, from any material
there are far more difficult jobs

my doka's missing its headliner. these are even harder to find than for full body vans. try krautbay for 'himmel' or 'innenhimmel'.

the bows shouldn't be too hard to find.

i plan to dynamat my roof and cover it with stickers and make it all pretty. aahh. until i can fork out for a real headliner, that is. plus the dynamat will help reduce noise and heat.

We inherited a particularly nasty black vinyl roof lining from the previous owners....
The plan is to do what I did on my old Transh*te a few years back. Fix wooden battons, fill the gaps with Kingspan and cover it with hardboard faced with some lining carpet - pretty much what High Peaker suggested. It worked fine before so it's just a case of getting round to it, been putting it off for at least 2 years now......

Got inspired after reading this, went out and started removing the old black vinyl and everything that was hiding under it.

I'v had a change of plan now, going to use tongue & groove cladding (quite cheap and fire rated) on the roof, running front to back to keep the "bow" shape and give some extra strength to the middle bit between the bracing bars. Not sure wether to go right up to the windscreen or leave the original cab liner in though.

If it looks too much like a sauna I can still carpet it

I like it but I'm sure it won't be to everyone's cup of tea, but wouldn't it be boring if we all had the same tastes The plan is to stain it green to go with the outside. Still plenty more to do as you can see......

Cheers for the comments, I was going to just re-board it but this seemed an easier option and has a bit more strength keeping it in place in the middle twixt the cross braces. Lots of lovely insulation under there too. Had a play with the flame retardant & a small gas torch on some offcuts too and it seems to do exactly as its name implies, which is a bit of a relief. It also says it's good for fabrics. Total cost of the job £26 including the spray.

Just a shame about that shabby Westy furniture, perhaps I should go the whole hog and clad it all
