Potential Camper-Noob!

Post by raker »

Hey guys!

Although not a noob to 'dubs having owned quite a few in various shapes and forms, my family and I are basically new to campers! I'm trying to establish a knowledge base from this [excellent btw!] forum and a few mech friends.

I've viewed a couple of vans recently, but to no avail and am viewing an '85 Caravelle with a high-top next week. From discussions with the owner over the phone, the history sounds convincing as he's owned it [seemingly as an enthusiast by the sound of it!] for 8 years as third owner - so I have a good idea of some of the work already undertaken [new engine and clutch]. Pics look good too - all very promising.

Other than the normal checks I intend to make on the van [all corners up to check out strutural rust, bearings, brakes, steering etc] what I'm after from you guys is a sort of top 5 or 10 common faults that normally ail the t25s engine, interior or body? I can take them with me then so I feel more confident to appraise the van and make a fair offer on what I find?

Come on guys - sort out a potential van-ner [?]! :ok

Many thanks in advance!!!

Si.

A 10 mile test drive seems rude, but you wont regret it. Get her real hot, till the front fan comes on and watch the engine for leaks.

Thanks for the wiki points! Should have checked those!

Okay - that sounds like a good point - will try and get a long test drive in then?
