Im currently cutting the rear out and inner arch out of my van.On most areas i can cut out old metal and out new in,but on some areas i need to treat and prime the old metal.
The way i was planning on doing it is in this order:
Vactan
Etch primer
Oxide primer
Std grey primer
Vactan reacts with rust, but etch primer is meant for bare metal so im not sure if the above way of applying the treatments is best
Hi not sure on primers but I have just finished replacing many panels and found vactan was good but it reacted with the etch primer i used, again unsure if it was something I did wrong but I cut out, degreased area brushed on vactan, left to dry then fitted panel and vactaned the inside of panel b4 fitting,I also vactanned the outer then sprayed etch primer this is where I guess I went wrong because I had to sand the outer panel back to metal!!!!!!I learnt the hard way,but never done this b4.
On other panels I cut out then vactanned the area and the inside of new panel didnt vactan outer and just used grey primer £3 a tin,2-3 coats and mines ok
Im tempted to take the vactan off and just etch primer, then oxide primer etc. Though im suprised etch primer reacts with vactan, i thought you could paint nearly anything ontop of vactan
