Drinking water tank questions

Post by colinbaines »

Hi, everyone,
This is my first post - I've been lurking for a week or two and enjoying the banter. I've got a 1990 watercooled Holdsworth Villa. I've just got round to sorting out the drinking water system. Fitted new Shurflo pump, filled tank and water came out from a hole with a pipe in near the top of the back wall of the tank. I tried to investigate this further, and pushed the pipe into the tank, and of course there's no way of getting it out. Iplugged the hole with a wine bottle cork, which seemed to stem the flow, so I went on filling it to the very top, cos I wanted to puriclean the whole system.
I expected the tank to overflow from the filler cap when I'd filled it, but it overflowed over the top of the tank instead.
Does anyone know
a) what the pipe which was coming out of the back of the tank is for
and
b) is there/should there be a hole in the top of the tank.
It all seems a little weird, and all might be revealed if I took the tank off, but right now I haven't got the time - I'm working till Sat night and then we're off in it for 3 days!!

Several years ago I took the water tank off my Autosleeper, and it had small vent holes in the top from which water would flow when overfilled.
Welcome to the club. :D
